Many people just start a site out of the blue, others plan all things carefully. In time all the work might be paying off in another interesting way (regardless of advertising revenue and traffic): you can establish yourself as a "brand" online. People will know that you own good sites or that you have ugly and spammy ones.
Did you ever think about this issue? Do you see your site(s) as a chance for you to establish a brand?

Hmm... never really thought about it that way exactly, but I suppose you are right.
I do keep in mind to be consistent in how I run my online businesses so that I can earn trust from those who might potentially do business with me. :)

well, my friend told me about this before i started my blog. She told me i could see it as a branding opportunity, so i could make myself noticed a bit on the net.
I actually agree.. I post on all kinds of forums, i get noticed and sometimes i find myself surprised about the fact that people actually recognize me :) At school i am known as the "dot info girl" :) (info is my blog extension) It's a nice feeling.

When I started web design 6 years ago I started with a site. Then I created some more, but trying to make them all informative and useful. Little by little I was also shocked to see I am a "brand" since people recognize me from other places. I did get some web design jobs, some good link exchanges and other business opportunities, just because people knew I don't make bad sites.
This got me thinking about this entire branding issue and it does work. Getting known for doing quality job really helps a lot.

As I was first starting my site I thought that I can easily make money from them, so I started to build my first blog on blogger.com. All I do was post a lot of banner on my first one. After a month, I realize the potential of adding contents to bring in some money, that’s why I created my second blog. Now, my blog is generating enough traffic without the use of traffic exchanges.

I never thought of making a site purely for the money revenue I would get from it.Generally if I have an idea based on subject I have knowledge or experience on,it could be a good site project.Of course I think about branding, because my originality,if it's the case, should get credit for it,but as I said, money may be an option or opportunity later, but never an incentive for me,at least until now.

When I first started I knew nothing about running a PTR site. Lucky for me my
partner knew more than I did as he was admin for another PO. I have learned
so much more and yet still know so little! My advise to anyone even entertaining
the idea of opening any form of GPT site is know what you are doing first or at
least have an idea. Get some experience and above all keep the program sustainable!
There is usually some PO looking for a helper as admin. I manage to run 4 sites
alone for the most part but even I need help now and then and lucky enough to
have it. The only experience I had was clicking and building and managing forums.
