Ok... I am putting on my creative hat.. :bearwub:

How's this for an idea.. ?

I love spy, lost treasures, treasure hunts etc. I am sure many are too..

So you here goes..

You have a site (assumed that content and all is up and running) and you want to promote it.. and generate traffic.

You have a mini spy / secret agent / treasure hunt promotion..so here is what you do.. (I hope it works  )

1. The idea is for participants to gather information, bits and pieces of it via Adsense / Yahoo ads which appear on your website

2. The ads are obviously your own which you paid for and created, and they are to be on your site and of course allowed to run on other sites..

3. The ads will contain the bits of information, and a stinger to entice people to find out more about this promo.. clicking on the ads will lead to secret pages for some and some will have the information on the ad itself..

4. Of course there must be a prize!!! iphone or the latet iPod maybe?

Through this promo, you get two things

1. Drive traffic to your site
2. High click through rates

Ok.. now I am ready to be flamed!!

First off, let me say that IS very creative!

I will have to give this some more thought, however, because it violates Google's TOS and would have to be revised. The reason is that by giving someone any kind of incentive (i.e. winning a prize, earning cash, etc), you risk getting your account banned.

Thoughts?

Ok, with regards to the TOS, I believe it is on the part of the publisher (adsense user) not to entice people to click on ads.

For example, if this website is yours and you have adsense ads all over the place and you say, if you as a user show your support of this site by clicking on the ads, I will do this and this for you..

That I believe is not allowed.

What I was eluding to is that we are the adword advertisers (we are paying) and we also have an adsense account, and we try to get our own ads shown on our sites. This ads have clues etc..

And of course these ads because are adword ads will happen on other web sites.

You think that will work? I will need to look at the exact wording of the TOS to be sure.

In this case, I am a little lost on the benefit to "us" as the advertiser. What I mean is that if I pay Google for the clicks on ads and then people from my site are clicking -a lot b/c of the game, then Google will be making all the money. This is because we will be paying Google more than we are making from AdSense. In other words, unless it is something that shows on other websites, then it would be better to just have an "easter egg hunt" on your own site without using AdWords at all. That way, you "ads" are free. However, if your goal is to make it an Internet wide thing, you are making other webmasters more money --since our ads will be clicked on other sites.

Make sense? Or, am I just confusing the real issue??

I'm not surprised. I think it is a slippery slope, but the "easter egg" idea is a good one --aside from the ads.

Thanks for the heads up, igetmoney

Well firstly, this is not a long term campaign.

The intent of the campaign is to

1. firstly raise awareness of your new site,
2. generate traffic
3. get opt-in members because that is the only way people can be part of the competition

Yes, some money will be spent in order to generate that traffic to your site and yes Goggle does earn some money.

How much you pay Goggle is limited by your ad campaign with them. When you ads run out your adsense account will be showing other ads right?

Sure you can have your easter egg hunt without any of the above, however tell me how you will be generating the interests and traffic.

Bradon, what you have stated is correct, there will be some expenses on our end but it is limited to what we wish to spend on the campaign.

Remember the aim is to first drive traffic to your site, and 2, get them opt-in.

Any examples to start with?

And of course any real intent towards this direction will be done in consultation with Google adsense before doing anything.

If it is a business idea, then all avenues are looked at and explored, analysed and backed by facts before a decision is made.
