Using Google's keyword tool

Not sure if you have noticed but Google has a very in depth guide to Adsense and Adwords, and some great tools to go along and its free. Yup. :bearwub:

https://adwords.goog...ordToolExternal

Using this free tool that was made available in 2006, you can literally analyse any keywords that has been used by searchers using Google.

You will be able to :

1. See what is the demand is like for a particular keyword or phrase
2. See how competitive that keyword is.

1+2 = niche

With just these 2 sets of data, you will realise which keywords you should be bidding on at the lowest possible price while getting a decent search volume without having to fight off everyone by paying more PPC.

Now, if you are smart, what you will actually do before you go into making a website and all is to actually building the theme of your site or page around the very keywords that you have analyse and found to be affordable and yet provide a decent amount of volume.

You might ask why do you need to do that when you are already paying for ads that will lead people to the site.

Well, you have to remember that you want to have a good chance that your site will get into the top 10 as well when users search for those keywords..(there is a limit to how much you can afford on PPC advertising right?)

And yes there are those who will never ever click on an Ad, so being well placed on a search does help addressing this group of audience.

All these and more are available on various sites and forums if you do a search.

You will be surprised to learn how creative people can be in using this tool to help target traffic to their site.

Good luck!

This is very good advice, nightfall.

I just want to add a quick note for others to keep in mind that these figures at not 100% exact and not always 100% reliable. My point is that they can be used to "judge the potential" that a phrase or term has but you shouldn't rest everything on the results here. Use it as a starting point and do your own research.

I say this because tools like this sometimes group phrases like "Get Paid Forums" with "Get Paid Forum" and say that "Get Paid Forums" is searched for ump-teen million times per month when really it is mostly "Get Paid Forum" that was searched for. If you based your entire campaign on "Get Paid Forums", you would undoubtedly get to the top quickly and find out there is no traffic.

Ciao,

Another tip I would like to share is that if you are new to use PPC to advertise your product or site, don't always thinkg Google or Yahoo immediately.

There are many other search engines out there as well and it costs less.

Some might say the reach of these other SE are not as good, but you have to remember that the competition with Adwords is HIGHLY competitive and for a new player you will be paying a lot more to learn what works and what doesn't.

Better to learn that with a cheaper PPC option.

These are some awesome tips indeed. My use of Adwords was always unpleasant. I am not able to get the traffic I want and it does get costly. Have tried the system few times and I got to the conclusion that: 1. I need to learn more about this to be effective or 2. unless I have a lot of money to waste, I should focus on other ways to bring in my traffic :D

I tried advertising my money making website in the past on adwords and didn't make to much. I find it more profitable to advertise a campaign and try to bring in leads.

I have never tried Google Adwords or PPC but have been thinking about it. However, I have heard about people losing tons of money doing this. Is it worth it or would it be best to steer clear from this PPC thing?

I do OK with adwords, but for beginners, the learning curve can be "expensive." I know it cost me several hundreds of dollars before I got the hang of it. I also attended some seminars sponsored by Google for advanced adwords. So, I wouldn't recommend it for just everyone, especially anyone who can't afford to lose some of the money for awhile.

And buying the online "how to" guides is hit or miss. I've seen some with decent information and many which are borderline scams. I will be making some videos in the next few months to help teach people, but then again, that's still a few months out.

Cheers,

Brandon
