Some of us cannot stand ANYONE touching their computer: we have a lot of information there, files, programs and we can't be too sure the other one won't mess it all.

Others are pretty relaxed with this and have no issues with other people using their computer.

How "tough" are you in this matter? do you allow others on your computer?

Normally just me and my DH...However at times I have let others use it (only with close supervision though) It is not so much that I don't have things on here I don't want others to see.. It is that I don't want a buncha crap downloaded onto my system...

Also how do YOU feel about using other people's computers?? Reason I ask is I am constantly being asked to help someone fix their system...(Yesterday I spent several hours helping my F-I-L with his computer) I don't mind helping anyone tweak their system...It just feels like to me anyway...Like rumaging around in someone's else's underwear draw :bearwub: ...Some things are just meant to be kept private and to me computers and underwear draws fit into the "private category!!!

My computer is something 'sacred' for me :D Only I use it and sometimes my boyfriend, but he has his own right near mine so.. rarely he touches my "machine".
Sometimes my sister comes over and i let her answer the forums she subscribed in and maybe check her mail.. simple stuff.
That's it.
If someone else comes and needs to use it, i let them but only supervised. I constantly watch them. I have important files in there, i would hate it if someone would delete some or mess things up..

Oh man. I do not like when people use my computer. Way to much personal info and things. Since I own a business I definitely do want friends an relatives bringing me unwanted spy ware or viruses.

I don't know whats all this fuss about.Regarding me,anyone can use my computer. Why you ask?Because I took the time of password protecting my account and encrypting my files, applications and directories. So even if my account is open on the computer,no one can really do much on it anyway.

I created a few side accounts for others to use, depending on who is using it.And I split programs for use from the root account so that everyone gets what they want without desiring my own account.

You should do the same.It doesn't require much computer knowledge and it's fairly equal for all who want to use it.

I really don't like for anyone to use my computer unless I am there to closely supervise what they are doing. My son has a college friend that will ask to check his email on my computer, but that is about all I let him do. I feel that my computer has a lot of personal info stored on it and it sort of feels like someone invading my privacy same as going into my purse or something.

I have let my son use mine at times but he has brought in alot of unwanted trash so I really try to keep people off unless they know what they are doing. I am still to new to fix problems other's can cerate. My computer is my closest friend and I think to much of it to let other's play on it. Baker

I mostly use it, but I let my family use it as well. As far as strangers go, that's strictly a no-no.

My family is allowed to touch my computer anytime that I am not using them. They understand that they should not touch my files; I think that this is a reason to trust them. I don’t believe that they would do anything to harm my computer on purpose.

We have a desktop and we have to click on our own name so we don't have to worry about our bookmarks being deleted or having to "sort" thru others bookmarks. I don't use the desktop too often. I love our laptop and only myself and dh use it and I don't go onto his side and he leaves my stuff alone.

I have my desktop icons set up the way I want them; only what I use on it...dh has I think an icon for everything on his....I can't stand that. I don't want anyone using my laptop and feel lost if it goes down for anything (like powercord getting fried LOL) I had a desktop but didn't use it becuase it wasn't my laptop LOL

I don't think I'd let 'strangers' use my computer no matter what. I don't use others computers..once in awhile I may check my email at my parents but I don't do anything else and wouldn't think to look at their files or go and mess with anything on their computer.

I don't like to use other people's computers because whenever something goes wrong afterwards, you become the one to blame. I don't like being in that situation... :wowow:

My friend has his own computer and let someone else use it.
The 'someone else' entered a series of sites on which no one should enter because they are crawling with viruses and other damaging stuff. Besides that, the 'someone else' started to download all sort of movies, music and other things on my friend's computer. It crashed! It crashed because there was no more free disk space to download on but the person did not care.. so she kept kept downloading until my friend's pc crashed.

This is why i don't let someone else use my computer.

We have a desktop and just my other half and I use it. We have passwords to get to our own stuff. So even if I forget to logoff there are some areas that can't be opened. We respect each others stuff. Once in a blue moon my son or his fiancee will get on, very rare. I am hoping to win a laptop on one of the many sites I'm a member on. Eventually I will get a laptop, I earned it by helping my man with one of his college courses. :dance3: By the way, any suggestions on what kind of laptop is reliable and fun to use? :faces: Hey, here's another "hawaiian word for the day", not actually a word but a "pidgin-english" phrase, big-eye long-neck", which is "rubber-necking". It's a visual!!! Till next time, Aloha!

~grins~ in an ideal world no one ~ but reality is that all my guys use my cpu...
Teen for school and emails.. toddlers for kids sites..

Hubby has his and I can use that when I need to .. but I tend to know where everyone is going on my cpu, and while the kids have their own.. they no longer have internet access on theirs ~strict mommy here~

but usually I can fix any trouble they might get into and it helps that I know what they are doing..
