I don't think there are too many people involved in the web business to not know the huge program Google has: Adsense. Basically you have to put a code on your site .. a banner (mostly text, few times image), the ads are not intrusive and with a good site integration one can do earn some nice revenue. The problem is that payment is small for a small site .. some people earn A LOT from adsense, others male measly bucks. Still it's easy to use and good for some pocket money for most of us.

Do you use Adsense. Would you consider this to be a waste of your time? Were you able to earn good money?

I admit, I use Google Adsense. I earned a little money, around $20. I was getting anywhere from 5 cents to 65 cents a click. (You can earn up to $5 a click I believe. Do not quote me on that.) I do however, recommend Adsense to anyone and everyone. I think it is a great program! One of the best. Sure, your earnings depend on you, your website, & what you do online. But, it's a great start at earning an extra income stream online. If you are targeting the right audience, the right ads, the right web pages, then it can do wonders! People make tons of cash off adsense. Some do make measly dollars so when they see the $100 minimum payout, they are a little dissatisfied. This is actually a small sum comparing the possibilities. You can make money on adsense with a little inspiration and determination. Just keep researching, learning, testing and doing what you do best and I assure you, it will come to you. There are so many options with adsense, don't be discouraged. Just a little time and patience and you'll be on your way to making bu coo bucks like the pro's. There are tons of programs out there to help you with Adsense.

So yea, in my opinion adsense is a great program and everyone should take advantage of it.

Yeah, I used AdSense on some of my sites back in 2001 and that was before the massive influx of webmasters turning to the web with 'Made for AdSense' sites. Back then, I threw up a few 468x60 spots on my sites and earned about $1,200 per month without even trying. I was amazed.

I remember that about a year later, for no reason, my earnings dropped to about $500 per month -with no explanation, similar number of visits, and similar number of clicks. I became very suspicious of their program at that point. I checked AdWords and since the CPC was higher and going up, I just assumed Google was pocketing the extra cash. I was a bit perturbed by this.

I stopped using AdSense during my stay (2.5 years) in Costa Rica, because of the headaches associated with being outside of the US. Now that I'm back, I see that the "wealth" is spread so thin that I barely even use AdSense now. I think my sites earn a dismal $25 per month now.

I got to admit this also. Google did always seem a little shady to me. Nevertheless, any type of extra income stream is still extra money!

I have to agree that adsense getting more and more publisher and this is one of the reason why google can reduce the cost of adsense. On the other hand, adsense nowaday can just ban someone just because they "suspect" someone against the rules.

Very true. Google has gotten a little too big for their britches, so to speak.

At the moment, none. Yahoo is run by a bunch of no-vision executives. I might consider consulting to them and help them fix their problems, but they won't even return their emails. A company who won't keep in touch with their customers is bound to become obsolete.

I built a better system than Google that is working but I don't have the money to make it fast enough or large enough to even consider competing. So, without some BIG investment money in a new competitor, Google is here to stay for now. I'm that sure that some investor will come along at some point, though, and find someone with vision and help them de-throne Google. It is the nature of things.

Yeah, and the sad thing is they've had 15 YEARS to get it together!!

It's sad that Yahoo is only as popular as it is because it was one of the first websites -ever. Otherwise, their horrible business practices would've driven it into the ground long ago. People would be saying, "Ya-WHO? Never heard of it."

I have been using Adsense since late July and have made $73. It is less than I expected to make using the service but hopefully things would change in the future as I learn about what does and doesn't work to make money on the internet and marketing my blog.
