*** UPDATE ***

Well, good news and bad news...

Good news: After working on it for 5 hours, I have finished integrating the ability for the forum to share Google Adsense and Yahoo Publisher Network revenue.

Bad news: Google won't allow ads on any type of site that is related to "Paid to Surf", "Paid to Read", "Paid to Search", or "Paid to Click." So, that rules out two (2) big sections of the forum!! However, those sections are not used that much, so maybe it doesn't matter. I have removed those forum areas, but I think the forum makes up for the loss by making money for the members, eh?

**************

Hello GPH Members!

I've been kicking around an idea to make more money for members of our little community. Basically, my idea is to allow for Ad revenue sharing. This is somewhat along the lines of showing a banner ad for the "most helpful member"...

The difference is that -instead of making money for only the most helpful member, EVERY helpful member can earn by participating and making good, helpful posts.

So, any feedback on this is welcome but mostly I want to hear people's thoughts on my concerns that a bunch of Google Ads or Yahoo Ads in the middle of the threads might be too ugly or mess up the clean look of our forum. What do you all think? Does it matter that much compared to making money?

I look forward to hearing your thoughts!

Ciao,

Brandon

I would focus on forum first, some google ads etc, I would place them here n there, google ads are clean on the eye.

Once theres income from that, then maybe offer a points system per post -- points into cash.

Hi BIAF,

Thanks for your feedback, but I meant more along the lines of each participating member signing up for their own Google / Yahoo Ads account and putting their publisher ID into their profile on this forum. Then, the Ads would put money directly into each member's own account.

Thus, there would be no need for a points system. Each member would get cash into their account the same day of each click.

:

May be add a code to each members with the best ideas or survey site which pay real money
or is real profitable and number one code can get more money each idea is rated among members
maybe with different opinions and the better rate wins more

Hmm... That's a good suggestion and maybe a possibility, actually.

There is a "rating" system already in place and supported by this board. I'll give your idea some thought. :)

or, just let us all use the html -- b/code to disply banner ads or anything of our own choice that we might want to promote.

Unfortunately, that won't work and would destroy the cleanliness of the forum for sure.

There would be so many people abusing that privilege and posting huge, gawdy banners and text font size 48 in bright yellow and purple that it would end up making the forum look horrible, spammy, and just drive people away.

A person can be trusted but people as a whole cannot. There will always be those who take advantage. You know?

Cheers,

Ok, everybody. I've been giving this some more thought lately --especially since the forum is perking up a bit even over the holidays.

I've added a poll. Please vote to let me know which publisher network I should focus on first. I don't just want to assume Google because not everyone here uses the mainstream companies. If you choose 'Other', please make a post to let me know what company you use (no links on that, please!!).

Thanks,

Brandon

Right now I am an Adsense publisher, even if my main revenue doesn't come from this kind of system. I would like trying Yahoo's program, but I am an international user and many of my visits come from there too. This means that so far i have to stick to adsense, unless Yahoo will open the doors in the near future to all publishers

Yeah, I think Yahoo is a little strict on that point right now. They require information you would only have as a US citizen, so that limits their publishers. I'm not sure why they would want to do it that way.

Well Google Adsense works just fine for me but it`s very hard to resist the temptation to click on my ads:). I earned $275 in aproximately 5 months and I think that`s good enough. I`m thinking of trying Yahoo Adworks too.

Looks like o far the most voted (the only, actually..) is Google.

I use their system too. I haven't made much, but I'm only at the beginning :)
I use it because i know i can trust it. I was skeptic at first but I've seen so many good reviews and good comments about them that i decided to trust them.

So, I'm looking for feedback from YOU now!

Would it be best to:

1. Remove those sections of the forum so we can use Google Adsense, or
2. Only support Yahoo Publisher Network?

The sections that would have to go would be "Paid to Read", and "Paid to Click / Surf"

I think you should not remove the 2 sections yet.
You worked for this forum and it would be a pity to let some of it go to waste.
I say try to support only Yahoo for the moment and see how it works. It it works out good, then i think you could consider removing the parts of the forum that you want.

I agree with Geenie on this one. You've worked hard on them, and the forum wouldn't be complete anymore with such kind of sections. Well, as long as most of the users here are from US, I think going with Yahoo is just fine... I must admit, I've been using only Adsense as I'm also an international user, but I still think you should go with Yahoo then :)

P.S. you could also try writing to Google, but I think that won't have any effect, perhaps they won't even answer you back...

Thanks for the great feedback :)

I am waiting on Yahoo to approve my publisher account for testing.

I also did write Google yesterday, so we will see. Google has never done me any favors, that's for sure. So, I don't expect them to be very helpful, lenient, or understanding. I hope they prove me wrong...

Update: Well, Google has re-instated advertising on the forum. So, that's good news for our little community. :crying:

So, as much as I agree that losing those areas of the forum isn't fair, I think it is in the best interests of the members. And since I built this forum to help others, I have decided to remove those two areas to remain in full compliance with Google's policies.

I think this move is really going to be a huge benefit for our members.

If you have a google publisher id, please be sure to go to your profile, click on Ad Revenue Sharing -> Your Advertising Settings, and then enter your ID as: pub-xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

To YOUR success!
